Bullet Slick that appeared on page 38 of the
December, 1999 issue of Guns Magazine.
Wonder lubes come and go and some "stick" around.
Bullet Slick is a San Diego Company and as such, I've been able to spend some time getting to
know the product and the people involved. Bullet Slick
was not originally formulated to be a general-purpose lubricant but the manufacturers had a goal in mind - to reduce
copper fouling in bores.
Initial testing began in 1992 and soon found they had accomplished the goal. Just as moly-coated bullets have
been shown to reduce fouling and increased accuracy in many cases, so has
Bullet Slick. However,
Bullet Slick does it cleanly, quickly and economically without the spraying, tumbling or mess commonly
associated with the moly coating process.
The simple act of wiping the bullets yielded results as advertised. This is one of those products that actually lives
up to its claims. After 50 rounds through my Remington 600 rifle, I could detect virtually no residual fouling (after cleaning
it out prior to testing with an Outers Foul-Out).
I also found it great on slide rails on auto pistols, sear surfaces in all manner of firearms, squeaky hinges, and on
virtually everything I tried. I called the guys at Lubrication Specialists who said, "Sure, it works great for that too!"
I have continued to use Bullet Slick as a
general-purpose lubricant and wipe it onto my centerfire cartridges when I go to the range. When the bore is treated
with Bullet Slick, firing just leaves a soot-like
residue that wipes out easily. The company also says it's a good rust preventative to boot! I also tried it as a re-sizing
lube and wonder of wonders, it worked great there too. Now, what else can I try it on . . . ?
